Mouth Puppets for the Stage

Mouth puppets have entered the mainstream again. Originally famous on TV thanks to the Jim Henson’s Muppets, popular stage shows like Avenue Q and Thank You For Being a Friend now have this endearing style of puppetry popping up and flapping mouths all over the country!

Puppeteer Mike Petersen spent two years on Jim Henson’s Fraggle Rock and nearly ten years with Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia. He’s also Bruce the Gorilla on CBC’s The Mighty Jungle and Binoo on Toopy & Binoo Vroom Vroom Zoom. As a teacher of puppetry, Mike has worked alongside Graham Whitehead at Mermaid Theatre, Allen MacInnis at YPT, Lynda Hill at Theatre Direct, Eric Woolfe at Eldritch Theatre, Seanna Kennedy at Lower Ossington Theatre, and Bruce Dow, director of the first Canadian production of Thank You For Being a Friend: the ultimate Golden Girls Experience.

During this one-day intensive Mike will introduce the basics and drill some of the finer points of mouth puppetry performance for the stage.  Lip sync, focus, body language, nuance and voice will all be explored and shared.

Learn all you need to know in this crash course with Mike Petersen!

You will need your own mouth puppet for this workshop.
